My name is Kellie. I train horses in Isabela. I ride, I train, and I fix horses that push, buck, or will not stand still. I also provide ground transport for horses anywhere in Puerto Rico, and rent my horses for photos or competitions.

From $150 an hour at the barn. From $250 an hour if I bring a horse to you. I hold the horse the whole time.

One day of work
This is one day, sped up.
Fifteen minutes with a young horse, nothing cut. Catch him, walk him, turn him, stop him, do it again. It looks boring. Boring is what works.
Ground work
Most of the job happens before you get on.

Out on the road
Calm on a busy road.
Cars going past. Dogs. People. Gates opening. A lot of horses lose their head out here. This one stays quiet and keeps listening to me the whole way. That is not luck. That is a lot of slow, boring work at home before we ever ride out.
The barn
A normal day here.
Nothing fancy. Feeding, playing, turning, stopping, standing around. This is most of the job.

Horse transport is available from the International Airport (SJU) to most cities and locations on the island. I can haul up to 3 horses at a time. Send me an email for a no cost estimate.

Times are estimates for a truck and horse trailer on the main highways, tolls included, with San Juan traffic allowed for. They are not car times and they are not a routed figure. Every haul is priced individually: send the brief and you get a real price in a day or less. Book show dates one to two weeks ahead.

What people ask me first.
How much does training cost?
$500 for 16 days of work. Stable and feed are separate. I work your horse four days a week for four weeks. Ground work, manners, listening, then riding. You get a video every week so you can see what changed.
What kind of horses do you take?
Any breed. Young horses that have never been started. Horses coming back after time off. Horses that push, buck, will not stand for the saddle, are scared of your hands, or ignore you. Every horse I own came to me with one of those.
Which horses can I rent, and what can I do with them?
Three of the five. Dolly is for rent and suits beginner riders for barrel racing and gymkhana. Cha Cha is for rent for intermediate riders for gymkhana, and he is not a beginner horse, and he is also for sale at $1,500. Barbara is for rent for Paso Fino shows. Paco is for sale at $7,000. Rental rates depend on the date and the event, so ask me and I will give you a number.
How much does a photo session cost?
Sessions start at $150 an hour at the barn in Isabela. From $250 an hour if I bring a horse to you, and the first 15 km is included. Somebody holds the horse either way. The photographer is not included, but ask me and I will give you names.
Can you pick up a horse from the airport?
Yes, from all four: SJU in San Juan, BQN in Aguadilla, MAZ in Mayagüez and PSE in Ponce. I meet the horse at the cargo building, walk it off the crate, check the health papers, and drive it wherever it needs to go.
How long is the drive from your place?
These are towing times with the trailer on, not car times. Aguadilla 50 minutes. Aguada 1 hour 5. Rincón 1 hour 20. Mayagüez 1 hour 35. San Juan 2 hours 40. Ponce 3 hours. Anything close to Isabela is usually done inside 90 minutes. They are estimates: San Juan in particular moves with the traffic.
How do I get a price for hauling?
Tell me where the horse is, where it is going, what day, and how many. I get you a price in a day or less. Every job is different, so I do not post one price for everybody. Book show dates one to two weeks ahead.
Why is a Paso Fino so smooth to ride?
Each hoof hits the ground on its own. Four beats, one foot at a time, so you barely bounce. There are three speeds. Classic fino is tiny and fast, for the show ring. Paso corto is the everyday trail speed. Paso largo covers ground as fast as a canter and you still stay sitting.
